Fireworks |
| Written By Danny Ware / November 5, 2009 |
My elbow is coming along great, it’s close to 100 percent. I’m fighting a cold, but other than that I’m feeling good, running hard. I’m ready to get out there and make something happen.
My time will come, I just have to be patient and be ready when it comes. I’m prepared to return kickoffs, I’m probably going to I just don’t know when. I don’t even think of my elbow anymore when I’m playing. I just go out and make sure I do the right thing, and do it at full speed.
The team is in a funk right now, but you can’t win them all. As a player you expect to, but 9 times out of 10 that doesn’t happen. We have to bounce back, we can’t let losing start to seem normal. We have to get right back out there and get back on the winning track this week and I think everything will be alright.
I don’t know how much I’m going to play against the Chargers, but I can tell you I’ll be standing right there by the coaches, ready to go, giving them the eye until they put me in there.
If they let me play, there’s going to be some fireworks.

Everything is Different |
| Written By Danny Ware / October 8, 2009 |
Dislocating my elbow on the first play of the first game of the season and missing four games was terrible, terrible, terrible. But I think everything happens for a reason. I think it just wasn’t my time to explode onto the scene.
I was depressed for about two weeks. It’s really frustrating to see my boys go out and practice and play, and I can’t do anything to help them after we fought together through camp. We were strong together in camp.
I came back to practice today and it was just so great to go out and play with my teammates. I look at everything different now, because I know everything could be taken away so easily.
The elbow is still a little tight but I expect it will loosen up later in the week. It will be a challenge to make sure I can hold the ball, I’ll probably keep it in my other arm most of the time. I’m going to work on strengthening it up so it’s not an issue.
The coaches didn’t tell me anything about getting playing time, just, glad to have you back, now get back to work. I had a couple of carries in practice and it felt good, I felt confident. I felt like there was nothing wrong when I was carrying the ball. I do have to be cautious though because I don’t want the elbow to pop out again. I’ll just let my actions on the field speak for me.
I’m ready and I’m happy to be back at practice and with my teammates. I look forward to playing, getting out there and helping the team fight and win.
I still want to return kickoffs, but now is not the right time for that. Hopefully I’ll be back doing that in a few weeks.

I’m Hungry |
| Written By Danny Ware / September 1, 2009 |
I’ve felt good in the preseason. I’m just trying to do something out there, I can’t wait til it’s for real. It might be preseason, but you’re practicing for the regular season so you’ve got to do your best every time. You’ve got to keep that killer mentality.
I think I’m doing pretty good, I’ve had some solid runs, I’m making plays, I feel I’ve been pretty solid on pass protection and I’m running good routes. I feel fast, my legs feel good, I feel confident and ready to go.
My ribs are a little sore but I just needed a couple days off to let them heal up. When I come back I’ll be 100%.
The touchdown I scored against Carolina was crazy. It was a screen pass and it just opened up. I went up for the ball and when I touched the ground I saw nobody out there. It didn’t make sense to wait for the blockers so I just got into the end zone as fast as I could.
I think I’ve shown the coaches that I can score from more than a couple yards out, it doesn’t have to be a goal line play, I could score running the ball, could be a pass, I think I showed a little versatility. My goal is to get to the Pro Bowl any way possible, returning kicks, punts, on kickoffs, running the ball. I’m just trying to do everything I can to stay on the field.
Everything is still up in the air. You don’t know which way the coaches are going to go on any given day. They see who’s playing well, sometimes they might need to switch up who is running the ball, or put in different plays. If I get thrown in and get a couple of good runs, maybe make a catch or two, pick up the blitzes, who knows, I might get some playing time.
I’m hungry. That dog is gonna be in me every time I’m on the field.

Trust Me |
| Written By Danny Ware / July 30, 2009 |
Training camp is almost here and I am ready to go! I’m ready to show everyone what they can expect this season.
I’m ready to bond with my teammates and let them know they can trust me at all times. Trust is huge in football. You can’t put a running back on the field if you can’t trust him to protect the quarterback, or if you think he might fumble, or if he’s afraid to run the ball. You have to have confidence in every player in every situation. I’ve got to show the players and coaches that they can trust me if we need a touchdown in the fourth quarter, that I’m an option no matter what the situation.
I’m not looking forward to all the meetings, but you have to get through them to get to the games. It’s a long day, going through practice, then three hours in meetings, then sometimes another practice. It’s definitely necessary though.
I’m going to be a lot more confident than I was the last three years. I really feel like I have an opportunity to get on the field, I’m comfortable with the offense and I can play fast. Just have to get out there and show the coaches what I can do. In the past I didn’t really know the offense all the way. This year I got it down so I should be good going into camp, and anything new thrown in there I should be able to pick it up.
There’s always the rookie hazing at training camp. I don’t do any of it because no one did anything to me the year I got here. It’s definitely funny, though. A lot of the vets do it to break up the monotony of training camp. It’s kind of a tradition from college and through the pros. There’s a lot of pressure in training camp and you need something to break it up a little bit.
The last thing I want to say is about Michael Vick. I’m supporting him and I hope the Commissioner can have a little understanding and let him play the entire season. I think he is making positive steps and he has done all he is supposed to do with the law and the league.
Let’s go, Vick. I’m a fan.

It’s All About Football |
| Written By Danny Ware / July 3, 2009 |
I’m not doing much lately except trying to get into the best shape of my life. Even though we have 4 weeks until we report for training camp on August 2nd it’s all about football right now for me. There’s never a day off.
I think I made an impression on the coaches during offseason workouts but I really won’t know until camp and the preseason. They don’t really tell you anything, but in my mind I think I did good. I didn’t have any errors, caught the ball good, ran the ball hard and picked up all the blocks. Everything seemed good to me.
A couple of coaches told me I had an outstanding mini-camp, they said I was killin’ it, but not everybody will say something to you. They don’t wanna blow your head up, they want to keep me humble and working hard.
The team looked pretty good out there and I think we’re gonna be alright. Everybody is hungry and ready to play, get back into the grind of a 16-game season, playoffs and Super Bowl.
I got a ring when the Giants won the Super Bowl but I gotta earn one on the field. I basically had the best seat in the house for that one. I want to be a part of the offense and help the team win the Super Bowl, then I’ll have more memories to go with the ring.
The next 5 weeks I’m going to stay up here in NJ and train at the facility with Markus and Jerry, our strength coaches. They do one-on-one stuff with me, plus they get the inside scoop from the coaches on what I need to work on, then they can come back to me and I can work on it. I’ll also have time to watch film and stuff.
I’m also gonna have a little fun during the break, but I’m looking forward to getting back to the grind. It’s all about football right now for me.

My Fab 5 |
| Written By Danny Ware / May 29, 2009 |
It feels great to get back to football. I’ve been ready for this since the last play of the last game of last season.
I’m really not doing much except getting ready for ball, working out, coming home, relaxing, reading the playbook and chillin’.
I am 100 percent committed to football, I’ve blocked out everyone else. Football is all that matters to me right now.
My favorite plays are inside zone plays. That lets me read the defensive linemen, set up the linebackers to overflow and either cut back or go straight up the middle. I like those plays rather than running to the outside and trying to beat everyone to the corner. You can use your power more through the inside zones. My keys on those plays are reading foot technique from the linemen, reading whether the linebackers are going uphill or downhill. If they’re uphill I’m going to cut it back. If they’re downhill I’ll take it straight upfield.
While I’m talking about my favorite things, here are some of my favorite places to hang out in New York City:
1) Mansion, also called M2. It’s a big club with a hip-hop room, there’s always a lot of people there hosting parties.
2) La Esquina. Great Spanish food, nice lounge.
3) Buddha Bar. Great food, great music, always an upscale crowd.
4) Geisha. All kinds of Asian food, from duck and spare ribs to sushi.
5) Nobu. Great sushi spot.
We’re getting closer and closer to training camp and the season. I’ve been making progress and I’m really looking forward to it.
I can’t wait.

| Call Me “Water” |
| Written By Danny Ware / May 05, 2009 |
For all of the fans who want to see who will replace Derrick Ward as Wind in the Earth, Wind & Fire backfield, I’ll tell you: I can’t replace Derrick and I don’t want to be known as the new Wind.
Call me Water.
H2O is one of the most important resources known to man. I transform whenever my environment changes. When it’s hot, I’m in my liquid form and can move through any boundary. When it’s cold I freeze and turn to ice. And once I get rolling, nothing can stop me.
If it ever gets too hot, I evaporate, and it’s like I’m running on the clouds. But I never disappear because when it rains, it pours!
That’s who I am. Water.

| Draft Day Thoughts |
| Written By Danny Ware / April 28, 2009 |
I think the Giants did pretty well in the draft, they brought in some pretty good guys who are going to push us and make us work even harder around here.
It’s good and it’s bad, because it makes you work harder, but also, some guys are going to have to go and that’s just the way it is.
We used a 4th round pick to take a running back. Naturally, guys are going to worry about their jobs and some guys will be on edge. It doesn’t put a scare into me because I know I go out there and work hard every day. It’s going to be a while before he can get carries, he has to learn the offense and it will take him a little while. But I heard he’s pretty good.
Listen, this is a business, but I’ll help the guy out because we’re here to win and we’re a team. But I’m also competing with him. I feel like I can replace Derrick Ward all day every day, they don’t have to bring in someone else to get those carries. So it’s kind of hard knowing that they used a fourth round pick on a back and they’re probably going to have to give him some playing time.
I wasn’t drafted out of Georgia, and that kind of put me in a tailspin at the time. But I figured that if I just got on a team and got the chance I could prove that I belonged. Now I’m just trying to take that next step and show I deserve to get carries.
Special teams really isn’t my thing but I’ll do whatever the team asks me to do. I feel I’m a natural runner with good vision, good power and good speed with the ability to pick up the blitz. But it was hard to prove myself last year because we had three backs who were all so good.
All I can say to you fans is keep an eye on me. I’m coming.

| Will Work For Carries |
| Written By Danny Ware / March 26, 2009 |
I would rate last season a 3 on a scale of 1-10. I feel I was born and bred to run the ball and play on offense, but last year we had so many running backs I played mostly on special teams. I contributed, but not the way I want to.
Today I signed my contract, one year for $460,000. I’m still trying to get into that Brandon Jacobs/Derrick Ward pay frame, but to do that I have to earn more carries. My mind state is, every carry I want to try to break it and take it to the house because you never know how many carries you’re going to get.
Even with Derrick in Tampa Bay we still have 3 good running backs so we’ll always have fresh legs on the field. Whoever is hot that day is probably going to stay in the game, that’s how it worked last year and hopefully it will stay that way. When it’s time for camp I’ll be in the best shape of my life so I can make the most of my carries.
I’m glad I have the opportunity to do this blog because I think it’s important for fans to see what’s going on with the team, how everybody’s attitude and confidence are, week to week. Give people a closer look at how everything goes on.
I took a little time off this season but I’ve already started working out again, nothing serious just getting ready for mini camps and off-season workouts.
This season, Giants fans can expect a lot of hard running, a lot of yards after the carry, hopefully a couple of end zone appearances. I’m just going to work hard, play hard when I’m on the field and do the best I can to help the team win.
Stay tuned for the next episode.
